We help organisations understand where they are, get clear on where they need to go, and build the capability to get there, and, stay there.

What makes us different?

We bring together technical rigour and human understanding in a way that most consultancies do not. Our work is grounded in real-world delivery experience across private, corporate, and government sectors.

When you work with SCALE NZ, you get a partner who is in it with you. We work alongside you. Whether you are a small business ready to grow, a large organisation navigating complex change, or a government agency delivering for communities, we bring the same thing to every engagement:

Genuine curiosity, deep expertise, and a commitment to solutions that actually hold.

We are analysts, data specialists and change advisors. But more than that, we are people who care about getting it right, for your organisation, your people, and the communities you serve.

Requirements Elicitation

Understanding what you actually need.

Sounds simple? In practice, it is one of the hardest and most valuable things an organisation can do well.

Requirements elicitation is the art of drawing out the real picture: the goals, the constraints, the stakeholder needs, and the gaps that do not always make it into the first conversation.

Done well, it saves time, money, and the painful experience of building the wrong thing.

At SCALE NZ, we facilitate requirements processes that are thorough, inclusive, and genuinely useful. We create space for ALL voices.

We translate what we learn into clear, actionable requirements your teams can work from.

What does this look like in practice?

→ Designing and facilitating workshops that bring diverse groups to shared understanding and agreed outcomes.

User story development & prioritisation

→ Gap analysis & needs assessment

→ Business artefact design and requirements documentation that is clear, complete, and agreed

The result is a shared understanding of what success looks like, before the work begins.

Process Mapping

You cannot improve what you cannot see.

Process mapping gives your organisation a clear, honest picture of how work actually flows, not how it was designed to flow, or how people think it flows, but how it really happens on the ground.

That distinction matters more than most organisations realise. The gap between the documented process and the lived reality is often where inefficiency hides, where risk accumulates, and where good people quietly work around systems that do not serve them.

At SCALE NZ we work with your teams to surface that reality, with curiosity and without judgment, we then help you design something better.

Good process mapping doesn't just improve efficiency, it builds shared understanding. That is the foundation of every successful change.

What does this look like in practice?

Current state process discovery & documentation

Facilitated mapping workshops with cross-functional teams

Identification of pain points, bottlenecks, and risk areas

Future state design, opportunity & sustainability mapping

→ Clear, visual process maps your whole organisation can understand and use

Data Management & Governance

Good decisions start with data you can trust.

When your data is well governed, everything else gets easier. Decisions get faster. Risk gets smaller. The organisation starts to trust what it is looking at.

That is what good data governance feels like from the inside.

Most organisations have more data than they know what to do with. The problem is rarely a shortage of information, it is knowing which information is accurate, where it lives, who is responsible for it, and whether it is actually fit for the decisions it is being asked to support.

Data management and governance is the work of bringing order, clarity, and accountability to that picture. It is not glamorous work. But it is foundational, and without it, even the best strategy is built on uncertain ground.

At SCALE NZ, we help organisations understand what data they have, establish clear ownership and responsibility, and put in place the structures and practices that keep data reliable, secure, and useful over time.

We also bring a perspective that goes beyond the technical. Good data governance is not just about systems and policies. Good data governance it is about people understanding why it matters and feeling equipped to uphold it. That means designing governance frameworks that are practical enough to actually be followed, and clear enough that everyone from the boardroom to the front line knows their role.

For Māori and Pacific Peoples,  we also understand the importance of data sovereignty, the right of communities to govern data about themselves, on their own terms. This is an area we approach with particular care and respect.

What does this look like in practice?

→ Data audit and current state assessment

→ Data ownership and accountability frameworks

→ Data quality assessment and remediation planning

→ Policy and standards development

→ Data governance operating model design

→ Training and uplift for data stewards and lleaders

AI Assessment

Before you adopt AI,

know what you are actually adopting.

The pressure to embrace artificial intelligence is real. It comes from every direction, board members, competitors, vendors, and the relentless scroll of headlines promising transformation.

Underneath all of that noise is a genuinely important question that most organisations have not yet answered:

Are we actually ready for this? And is this right for us?

Our AI Assessment service exists to help you answer that question honestly, before you commit budget, before you change processes, and before you ask your people to trust something they do not yet understand.

We assess your organisation’s current AI readiness across four dimensions:

  • Your data: is it clean, complete, and governed well enough to train or feed an AI system?

  • Your people: do they have the literacy and confidence to work alongside AI tools?

  • Your processes: are they stable and documented enough to benefit from AI, or will automation just speed up existing problems?

  • Your values: are you clear about what responsible, ethical AI adoption looks like for your organisation and the communities you serve?

That last dimension is where Scale NZ brings something genuinely different. Drawing on  frameworks of te ao Māori, and the principles explored in Tipu Ake , we help organisations think about AI not just through the lens of capability and efficiency, but through the lens of kaitiakitanga: guardianship.

  • What are you responsible for?

  • Who is affected?

  • What does holding this technology in trust for future generations actually mean in practice?

These are the questions that separate organisations who adopt AI well from those who adopt it fast.

What does this look like in practice?

AI readiness assessment across data, people, process, and values

Risk and opportunity mapping

Vendor and tool evaluation support

Ethical AI framework development

Stakeholder education and AI literacy workshops

Prioritised roadmap for responsible AI adoption

Change Advisory

Change is not an event. It is a journey.

How you bring people with you determines everything.

Change that is done with people, not to people, is change that holds.

Change Advisory

Technology can be implemented. Systems can be upgraded. Processes can be redesigned. But if the people who work within those changes do not understand them, trust them, or feel ownership of them, the change will not stick.

This is where most transformation efforts fall short.

Our Change Advisory service supports organisations through the human side of change. We help you plan, communicate, and embed change in a way that respects your people, reflects your culture, and sets the new way of working up to last.

We bring a perspective that goes beyond the standard change management playbook, drawing on established change management practice and key principles of te ao Māori: whanaungatanga, building genuine connection, and kotahitanga, unified, collective action.

What does this look like in practice?

Change impact assessment planning

Stakeholder engagement strategy

Leadership & change champion coaching

Training needs analysis & delivery support

Embedding & sustainment planning

Our Story

We are SCALE NZ.

A consultancy built on the belief that the best outcomes happen when organisations are truly understood.

Why Scale NZ exists

Scale NZ was founded on a simple but deeply held conviction: that organisations of every size and sector deserve access to the kind of thinking that actually moves things forward. Not templates. Not off-the-shelf solutions. Not advice handed down from consultants who disappear after the report is delivered.

Real partnership. Real analysis. Real change.

We work across the full spectrum, from small businesses taking their first steps toward growth, to large enterprises navigating complex transformation, to government agencies building services that communities depend on. What every client has in common is the need for someone who will take the time to genuinely understand them before offering a single recommendation.

That is what we do. And it is the only way we know how to do it.

How we work

We believe that the most important tool in any consultant’s kit is not a methodology or a framework. It is the ability to listen, deeply, without judgment, and with genuine curiosity about what an organisation is trying to achieve and why.

Our work is shaped by te ao Māori, the Māori world-view, and the values it brings to the way we engage with people and organisations. Concepts like whanaungatanga (the power of genuine relationship), mahi tahi (working together toward shared purpose), and kaitiakitanga (holding what we build in trust for those who come after) are not just words to us.

They are the way we show up.

This means we ask the questions others might skip. We make space for the voices that do not always get heard. And we design solutions that are built to last, not just to impress in a presentation.

Our Values

Honesty: We tell you what we see,  even when it is not what you were hoping to hear.

Our value to you depends on our willingness to be straight.

Inclusion: The best decisions come from the widest perspectives. We design every engagement to bring people in, not filter them out.

Accountability: We are in it with you. If something is not working, we say so and we help fix it.

We do not hand over a document and walk away.

Long-term thinking: We ask not just what works now, but what will hold.  Growth that is sustainable starts with foundations that are sound.

The people behind the work

Vyvienne Kyle — Founder & Lead Consultant

Vyvienne is a Business Analyst and Data Specialist with over a decade of experience helping organisations make sense of complexity and deliver meaningful change. She works across private, corporate, and government sectors, bringing a rare combination of technical rigour and deep human understanding to every engagement.

Vyvienne is also the author of Tipu Ake — Growing Upward: AI as a Natural Expression of Human Wisdom, which explores the intersection of AI and te ao Māori and has established her as a distinctive voice in the conversation about responsible technology

Vyvienne founded Scale NZ because she wanted to build a consultancy that did things differently, one where the relationship with the client is as important as the deliverable.

Every good piece of work starts with a conversation.

There is no obligation, no sales pitch, and no pressure. Just a genuine conversation about where you are, where you want to be, and whether we might be the right people to help you get there.

Whether you have a specific project in mind, a challenge you are trying to name, or you are simply exploring your options,  we are easy to talk to and we will give you an honest perspective.

  • Shared understanding is the foundation of every successful change.
  • Change that is done with people, not to people, is change that holds.
  • Clear, visual process maps your whole organisation can understand and use
